During a few days in the autumn, on the rugged west coast of Norway, world renowned photography legends, aspiring photographers, students and lovers of photography gather in the small and charming Norwegian coastal city of Kristiansund.
Now, the festival has been around for over sixteen years, annually gathering internationally acclaimed photographers – as well as emerging photographers – for sharing of knowledge, inspiration and life stories.
The festival program presents lectures, exhibitions, gallery talks, book signings, portfolio reviews, and movies, and attracts photographers from all over the world.
The photographers Tor S. Ulstein, Charlie Fjätström and Dagny Hay publish the photo art newspaper Uncertain States Scandinavia. For this year's festival, Uncertain States Scandinavia invites five young and Nordic photographers they are in love with to explore the exhibition space with them. USS will host talks, screenings and other events throughout the festival. The newspaper is run as a non-profit organization and functions as a collective for artists who work with photography. The team is passionate about promoting, discussing and understanding photography at a time when the image consumption is increasing. Since 2016 Uncertain States Scandinavia has produced 13 full-format newspapers and collaborated with galleries and festivals in Scandinavia and across Europe. The newspaper has published over hundred photo artists and invited them to various events, arrangements and exhibitions.
